Hello! Today I’m pleased to welcome you to JuliaPalooza for my stop on the Blog Tour for Gone to Ground by Rachel Amphlett, which is available now (links below).
I am sharing today’s spot with Ellen over at Bibliophile Book Club.
About the book
While attending a crime scene on the outskirts of Maidstone, DI Kay Hunter makes a shocking discovery. The victim has been brutally cut to pieces, his identity unknown. When more body parts start turning up in the Kentish countryside, Kay realises the disturbing truth – a serial killer is at large and must be stopped at all costs. With no motive for the murders and a killer who has gone undetected until now, Kay and her team of detectives must work fast to calm a terrified local population. When a third victim is found, her investigation grows even more complicated. As she begins to expose a dark underbelly to the county town, Kay and her team are pulled into a web of jealousy and intrigue that, if left unchecked, will soon claim another life.
Gone to Ground is the sixth instalment in Rachel Amphlett’s Detective Kay Hunter series of police procedurals (but I’m ashamed to admit, the first to be read by me.)
In many ways this can be read absolutely fine as a standalone, but I do feel perhaps I missed out on what has clearly been the development of characters and a team forged in experience so I do wish I had started at the beginning. I have Scared to Death on my TBR so must get round to it sooner rather than later.
Nevertheless, you are given plenty of information to bring you up to speed and the main story starts literally on page one. Several gruesome discoveries later and Kay is worried she has a secretive serial killer on her hands. Despite the dark overtones of the plot, the recurring characters are refreshingly pleasant and free of angst. (And, omg, Misha! ❤ )
The story gathers pace and the final third is frantic as everything starts to come together. The conclusion is satisfying as well as being pretty twisted and I absolutely did not see it coming. Although this was my first, I am sure this will not be my last interaction with Detective Kay Hunter!
Thank you to Rachel Amphlett and to Emma of #damppebblesblogtours for my copy of Gone to Ground and for my spot on the blog tour.
