Hello! Today I’m pleased to welcome you to JuliaPalooza for my stop on the Blog Tour for The Perfect Couple by Jackie Kabler, which is available now (links below).

About the book

The perfect couple…or the perfect lie?

A year and a half ago, Gemma met the love of her life, Danny. Since then, their relationship has been like something out of a dream. But one Friday evening, Gemma returns home to find Danny is nowhere to be seen.

After two days with no word from her husband, Gemma turns to the police. She is horrified with what she discovers – a serial killer is on the loose in Bristol. When she sees the photos of the victims she is even more stunned…the victims all look just like Danny.

But, the detectives aren’t convinced by Gemma’s story. Why has no one apart from Gemma seen or heard from Danny in weeks? Why is there barely a trace of him in their flat? Is she telling them the truth, or are there more secrets and lies in this marriage than meets the eye?

The Perfect Couple is a compelling mix of domestic suspense and serial killer police procedural.

For a while, I felt the story was going one way and I suspected what the solution would be, but no! The final third of the book is a pure rollercoaster ride of new revelations that turn everything on its head.

I found the story gripping and enjoyed the alternate chapters between Gemma and the police as the plot developed. I felt invested in Gemma’s anguish and frustration, and constantly surprised by the discoveries of the police.

While some of the later twists required serious suspension of disbelief, I was happy to go along with it for the sake of this exciting story. The only thing that stopped this being a full five star book for me was that some of the police reactions or dealings with suspects seemed a little… off. They seemed very credulous for supposedly experienced, big city murder detectives.

Relatively minor gripe aside, Jackie Kabler has written a fast-paced mystery that I read in only a couple of days. It is full of twists and turns and does not end up how you think it will.

Thank you to One More Chapter/HarperCollins UK for the ARC of The Perfect Couple and to Rachel’s Random Resources for my spot on the tour.
