Hello! Welcome to JuliaPalooza for my stop on the Blog Tour for Home Is Where The Bodies Are  by Jeneva Rose, which was published by Orion Books on 23 May 2024.

About the book

Home Is Where CoverAfter their mother dies, Beth, Nicole and Michael are forced to reunite to sort out their childhood home. Beth, the oldest, never left, caring for their mum until the very end. Nicole, the middle child, is drowning in her destructive drug addiction. Michael, the youngest, has moved far away and hasn’t been back to their small town since their father ran out on them.

When the siblings stumble upon a collection of home videos, it feels like a good idea to revisit those happier memories. But then one of the tapes reveals a shocking scene none of them expect to see. They watch their father, covered in blood, carrying a dead body, and hear a secret pact with their mother to never tell a soul. Is this secret connected to why their father vanished all those years ago?

Burying their mother is already hard enough, but now the siblings must uncover what dark secrets she took to her grave.

Home Is Where The Bodies Are is a dark and poignant mystery thriller and I thoroughly enjoyed this, my first book by Jeneva Rose. The story starts with the death of mother, Laura, and the themes of loss and family resound throughout the book. Emotions run high when estranged siblings Beth, Nicole and Michael reunite in their family home in a tiny Wisconsin town and this is an intense book, full of secrets and regrets.

The book is divided into short quick chapters narrated in turn by each sibling and chapters in the past from Laura. Each has their own personality and the structure works well, allowing us to get to know the characters and and discover the secrets and mysteries hiding in the past. The book is full of emotion and it is very moving to read about the sadness,  resentment, addiction and regret in the family.

The central mystery is dark and tense and I was gripped by the discovery of the home video and the struggles of the siblings to find out more about the past. The book is really well written and easy to read and I read it in only a few sittings. The conclusion is twisty and satisfying and I did not see the end coming. I will definitely be reading more from Jeneva Rose. With huge thanks to the publisher for my copy of Home Is Where The Bodies Are and to Random Things Tours for my spot on the blog tour.
