Hello, this Sunday I’m delighted to welcome you to JuliaPalooza for my stop on the Blog Tour for This Dark Place by Claire Kittridge, available to buy now!
About the book
Priscilla’s body lay motionless on the couch in front of her. They were blood sisters, but Avery never thought it would end like this – thrust against her will into this dark place. When the brutal death of a young American theater student in London is splashed across headlines worldwide, NYPD Detective Kelly Moore flies across the Atlantic to join a crack team of British investigators on the case. Together with the London Metropolitan Police, Kelly must track down a twisted killer who seems to know her every move. As the body count rises, and panic spreads, the killer threatens to make Kelly the next victim. In a heart-racing game of cat and mouse, Kelly must outwit this elusive master of surveillance – who might be the last person she suspects.

This Dark Place is a good debut by Claire Kittridge and a solid police procedural.
Detective Kelly Moore is an intriguing lead character, with the necessary underlying personal issues that I hope will be further explored in future books, and the supporting characters are interesting; I particularly liked DI Samantha Joshi. 🙂
The London – New York crossover gives the story an original edge and there are some pretty dark and disturbing themes running through the book. In fact some of the characters and their actions will turn your stomach. Not necessarily with gore, more with sadness and despair, and it is to Kittridge’s credit that she makes you feel a range of emotions.
The plot is well laid out and the viewpoint of the villain is a creepy addition, although I do think that some of the clues in those sections revealed their identity a bit too soon.
Nevertheless, this is an absorbing and unnerving read. I would read more from Claire Kittridge and Kelly Moore (and Joshi!) and I’d be interested to see whether the next instalment returns Kelly to New York or whether there is the opportunity for her to be involved in another London case.
Thank you so much to the publisher and to Anne Cater @ Random Things Tours for the ARC of This Dark Place and my spot on the Blog Tour.
