Hello, today I am very pleased to be helping to open the Blog Tour for Homicide in Herne Hill, the fourth in the London Murder Mysteries series by Alice Castle, which is available now (links below).
About the book
Beth Haldane, SE21’s premier – and only – single mum amateur sleuth, is really pleased to find a new friend at the school gates, in the shape of irrepressibly bouncy Nina. As well as a way with words, Nina has a puzzle she wants Beth to solve, centred on the solicitor’s office where Nina works in Herne Hill.
But as the mystery thickens, threatening to drag in not just Nina and her boss, but the yummy mummies of Dulwich, too, Beth is about to find out just how far some people will go to keep up appearances.
Join Beth in this fourth instalment in the London Murder Mystery series for her toughest case yet.
Having really enjoyed Alice Castle’s first two Beth Haldane books, Death in Dulwich and The Girl in the Gallery, I am delighted to be able to join the tour for the newest instalment, Homicide in Herne Hill.
(One quick word of warning though: I hadn’t yet been able to read the third book, Calamity in Camberwell, and this book contains huge spoilers for that ( 😦 my own fault) as well as call backs to the earlier books, so I would definitely recommend reading this series in order!)
Beth is as much fun as ever in Homicide in Herne Hill and it is good to see her relationship with Harry has finally come to fruition, as well as meeting some new characters. Beth’s escapades really remind me of those of the lead character in the TV series Motherland, albeit with more crime!
This fourth book sees Beth make a new friend, sort-of get a new job and definitely stumble across new mysteries. Unusually the early deaths are of the canine variety but it’s not too long before the grim reaper claims its human victim.
Each of Alice Castle’s mysteries is fun, witty, clever and an enjoyable read, and Homicide in Herne Hill is no exception. I like the new(ish) romantic angle with Harry, and Beth’s wry observations of yummy-mummy life and comic capers. The ending is satisfying and I am pleased to know that there is another Beth book due out next year.
I definitely recommend this book but suggest that you do yourself a favour and read the first three first!
Thank you to Alice Castle and Crooked Cat Books for the copies of the book and to Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for my spot(s) on the Blog Tour!
