About the book
Ten years ago, Jess’s mother was murdered by the Magpie Man.
She was the first of his victims but not the last.
Now Jess is the star of a YouTube reality series and she’s using it to catch the killer once and for all. The whole world is watching her every move.
And so is the Magpie Man.

Are You Watching is a gripping murder mystery slash serial killer thriller, with a heart.
Its plot is a twist on the Making a Murderer/true crime podcast sub-genre and grabs you from the first paragraph. It is made up of quick, tiny chapters and races along at brisk speed.
Jess is a fierce and compelling protagonist and carries the story well, switching between anger and determination and heartbreaking emotion and loss.
I’ve seen this described as a Young Adult thriller although this didn’t really occur to me at the time, but I can see it appealing to that demographic. Sadly I am no longer a particularly young adult but still very much enjoyed this book! You do need to suspend disbelief a few times but this is pretty easy to do in such a fast-paced and intriguing story.
There were a couple of more light-hearted moments, mainly courtesy of best friend Emily, and these balanced well with the darker, more distressing points. I enjoyed all of the twists and turns and did not at all predict the final outcome.
I highly recommend this mystery thriller and would definitely read more from Vincent Ralph.
Thank you to Penguin for the ARC of Are You Watching and to Anne Cater for my spot on the blog tour.
