First of all – that cover is amazing. It looks just like a still from a slasher film and that sets the scene and immediately drew me to You’re Not Supposed to Die Tonight. (Second of all, that title is also great!) The book sounded just up my street and was perfect as my Halloween read.

The story throws us straight into the action and and lets us get to know Charity and her campmates. Charity is a believable and relatable lead character, trying to do her best, thrown into a nightmare scenario. Her narration is chatty and sometimes funny and you feel like you’re getting to know a friend. She and Bezi make a cute couple and the easygoing relationships between the wider group of friends is well drawn and realistic, so you are rooting for them all.

Kalynn Bayron‘s very atmospheric descriptions brilliantly bring the camp, its terror game and the real threats to life. She perfectly pitches the tension and thrills: shocking you, then loosening the screws, then grabbing you again. The story did not go the way I expected which was refreshing and I did not guess how it would all turn out. The twists and the tension keep going right until the very end. I recommend this to anyone looking for a fast-paced and spooky read.
