Harry Potter and the Cursed Child – Parts One and Two by John Tiffany
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Having read (and loved) Harry Potters 1-7 at least two or three times I was very excited that there was a new HP story. I wasn’t able to see the live stage show, so the script book was the next best thing.
Harry Potter and the Cursed child did satisfy some of my HP cravings, however, I must say that it took me quite a while into Part One Act One to really get into the story and the new format.
That said, once I got into it, the plot was full of thrilling twists and turns, although – being presented as a script – I did miss the depth and complexity of the descriptive passages and characterisation from the original books that JKR is so good at.
It was great to revisit past characters though and to meet new ones, plus there were some great surprises! JKR’s dry sense of humour was apparent throughout and it is a good addition to the series.
