Local Girl Missing by Claire Douglas
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is a creepy and atmospheric mystery with a superb ending! A couple of times I thought I knew where it was going but I was pretty much wrong. I’m always a fan of multiple narrators and it works well here: jumping back and forth between the past and the present, building a picture of what happened to Sophie and what has happened to her family and friends since.
My only slight issue was pacing: two or three times, I found the book start to drag, particularly during some of Francesca’s sections, which I found a bit repetitive on occasions; then, one or two plot developments seemed over and done with too quickly.
That said, the resolution makes up for any minor niggles: I thought it was clever, audacious and satisfying – it made my jaw drop! I’ve not read Claire Douglas’s first book but it’s now on my TBR pile. 🙂
Thank you to NetGalley, Penguin UK – Michael Joseph and Claire Douglas for the ARC of Local Girl Missing.
