#BlogTour Palm Beach, Finland by Antti Tuomainen #PalmBeachFinland @antti_tuomainen @OrendaBooks #BookReview

Hello! Today I’m pleased to welcome you to JuliaPalooza for my stop on the Blog Tour for Palm Beach, Finland by Antti Tuomainen, which is available now from Orenda Books (links below).

About the book

PALM BEACH PROOF COVER AWJan Nyman, the ace detective of the covert operations unit of the National Central Police, is sent to a sleepy seaside town to investigate a mysterious death. Nyman arrives in the town dominated by a bizarre holiday village – the ‘hottest beach in Finland’. The suspect: Olivia Koski, who has only recently returned to her old hometown. The mission: find out what happened, by any means necessary. With a nod to Fargo, and the darkest noir, Palm Beach, Finland is both a page-turning thriller and a wicked black comedy about lust for money, fleeing dreams and people struggling at turning points in their lives … from the ‘King of Helsinki Noir’.

Palm Beach, Finland is a darkly comic romp that reminded me of the work of Carl Hiaasen, early Christopher Brookmyre and – as the blurb says – Fargo.

Jan Nyman is a likeable lead character, and one of the few points of relative sanity in the farcical plot, and Olivia Koski is strong and ballsy. Rent-an-idiot(s), Chico and Robin seem brilliantly inept and Holma is creepy and unnerving. I think my favourite character though was Muurla, Nyman’s boss, with his excruciating and hilarious over-sharing of extremely personal details!

The bleak setting of the town and resort is clearly described and fits well with the overall story and adds to the feeling of desperation surrounding the various characters.

The story is well written and smartly plotted; it is an original tale and filled with amusing observations and funny lines.

It is also action-packed and murderous and thrilling and very entertaining, so if you like your humour dark and your stories quirky, I highly recommend Palm Beach, Finland.

Thank you to Orenda Books for the ARC of Palm Beach, Finland and to Anne Cater for my stop on the blog tour.
