Hello! Today I’m thrilled to welcome you to JuliaPalooza for my stop on the Blog Tour for Death Deserved by Thomas Enger & Jørn Lier Horst, translated by Anne Bruce, which is published by Orenda Books and is available now (links below).
About the book
Oslo, 2018. Former long-distance runner Sonja Nordstrøm never shows at the launch of her controversial autobiography, Always Number One. When celebrity blogger Emma Ramm visits Nordstrøm’s home later that day, she finds the door unlocked and
signs of a struggle inside. A bib with the number ‘one’ has been pinned to the TV.Police officer Alexander Blix is appointed to head up the missing persons investigation, but he still bears the emotional scars of a hostage situation nineteen years earlier, when he killed the father of a five-year-old girl. Traces of Nordstrøm soon show up at different locations, but the appearance of the clues appear to be carefully calculated … evidence of a bigger picture that he’s just not seeing…
Blix and Ramm soon join forces, determined to find and stop a merciless killer with a flair for the dramatic, and thirst for attention.

Death Deserved is brilliant! It starts with a bang and barely lets up the pace from there on.
The characters of Alexander Blix and Emma Ramm are introduced to us skilfully, their personalities, strengths and vulnerabilities sketched cleverly. The surrounding characters are also interesting and the unique relationship between Blix and Ramm is a major plus point. The writing is sharp; Horst and Enger clearly work well together and are complemented by the skills of Anne Bruce.
The plot is clever, complex and exciting. It’s best to know as little as possible of the details going into this book and to let the twists and developments within take you by surprise. While the storyline is very much 21st Century-modern, the motives, characters and investigations all feel ageless, like classics of their kind.
I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who likes an intelligent, fast-paced, serial killer thriller. I’m pleased to see there is a second book in this series already available in Norwegian and I hope Orenda Books will be able to publish a translation soon. Success Deserved, more like! (Sorry 🙂 )
Huge thanks to Karen at Orenda Books for my copy of Death Deserved and to Anne Cater at Random Things Tours for the opportunity to join the tour.
