The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I found this to be an extremely engaging read, although it did take me a little while to get into it. Once I did, I was hooked and read all three books (so far) in the series in less than a fortnight.
I really warmed to both Comoran and Robin and really felt I could ‘see’ them and the locations and other characters described. I’ve always enjoyed JK Rowling’s writing and she still paints vivid pictures of people and places.
The story was complex, intriguing and well-plotted and I didn’t guess how/whodunit. My only niggle was that it could possibly have been about 50 pages shorter to improve the pacing without taking anything away from the actual plot.
That said, JKR excels at both epic stories and three-dimensional characters so I hope there are many more stories to come!
